If you are having any issues with the Consult app, please make sure you are on version 1.0.0 or above – you can check this on the Settings tab in the app.
How to get the app
Our mobile app for iOS and Android is now available, for free. Search for 'FourteenFish Consult' in either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Because of the way our app works, you don't need to worry about consultations recorded on your device getting mixed up with your other photos and videos. Our app is self contained, and doesn't back up content to a cloud storage system (e.g. iCloud) other than FourteenFish's.
What devices can I use?
You can use an iPhone, iPad, or Android device to record face-to-face consultations. This can be your own phone, or a device owned by your practice.
Getting Started
Once you have downloaded the app to your device, open it.
Request permissions to use your camera and microphone
You must allow the app to use your device's camera and microphone so it can record consultations. You will need to press the 'Request permission' button as shown below, and then 'OK' for both the camera and microphone dialogs. You will only need to do this once.
Recording a video consultation
To begin recording a consultation, ensure you are on the 'Record' tab. Position the video preview so that both you and the patient will be present on screen in the same shot, then press the large red record button at the bottom of the video preview. You can switch between the front and rear camera with the camera-switcher button next to the record button, but the app only uses one camera to record.
You will be reminded to record the patient's consent at the beginning of the recording.
When you are ready, press 'Start recording' to begin.
When you have finished, press the large red square to stop recording.
You will be presented with a 'Recording finished' screen where you can give your consultation a title, and either save, or discard it.
Should further consent evidence be needed, you have to option to select if you need to upload this on the main website, before sharing the consultation with your Supervisor.
Your recording will be optimised to reduce its size and enhance the audio, and then uploaded to your FourteenFish Consultation dashboard. Ensure you are logged in to your FourteenFish account on the 'Settings' tab so your recordings can be uploaded.
After your recording has been uploaded, it will be removed from your device.
Tips!
- Ensure you have enough disk space on your device to make a recording. We suggest at least 1GB of storage space should be available for a typical length consultation of ~15-30 minutes. Once the recording is finished, the app will optimise the size of the video file to reduce its size before uploading it.
- Position your device far enough away so that both you and the patient are being recorded, but close enough that your device microphone can record the conversation.
- After you have finished recording, leave the app open on the History tab to allow the app to finish optimising and uploading the video file.
Your consultation history
Your 'History' tab lists the consultations you have recorded on the device, as well as an icon to indicate whether it has been uploaded to FourteenFish or not.
You can remove items from this list with a left-swipe gesture on the row you wish to remove.
Settings
On the 'Settings' tab you can log in to your FourteenFish account. You also have the option to pause video uploads. This may be useful if, for example, your practise doesn't have a reliable internet connection and you would rather upload your video files later at home.
Credits
Consultations recorded and uploaded with the Consult app do not count towards your available credits. This is because all the processing happens on your device, and the optimised file is uploaded to our system.
