As a resident doctor, you may find some of the terminology used on FourteenFish a little different to what you are used to in your training.
Below we detail how your training is broken down on your Training Map, and explain these differences:
Posts (Placement/Training location)
This represents where you are training currently.
Review Periods (Rotation/Post)
The College tend to use the term 'Review Period' to describe a year of training ending with an ARCP but FourteenFish use this term to refer to a 6 month time frame, which ends with an ESR. Generally 2 Review Periods need to be completed and signed off by your Educational Supervisor in a year of training, to be reviewed by ARCP.
Our use of Review Period is therefore more in line with what, in your training, is described as the 'Rotation' or 'Post'.
More about Review Periods can be found in our Help Article here.
Stage of Training (ST year)
There are 11 stages of medical training, labelled CT1- CT3 and ST1–ST8.
• Resident doctors in Core Training follow stages CT1- CT3.
• Resident doctors in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) Training follow stages ST1-ST8.
• Resident doctors in Higher (Specialty) Training follow stages ST4-ST6.
More about Stages of Training can be found in our Help Article here.
The Training Map Explained:
Below gives a visual representation of how your Training Map is broken down into layers, vertical lines and lozenges, based upon the FourteenFish terminology:
All areas of this Training Map are 'clickable', opening up 'at a glance' information below the Training Map in a separate section (green arrow below), that lead to more in depth pages when links are followed for further information or editing (red box below).
Lozenge key for Review Periods, Surveys, exams etc, ARCPs:
Grey or White lozenge = In progress or yet to happen (e.g. when an ARCP is booked in ahead of date, it appears grey).
Orange or Yellow lozenge = Completed but 'unsatisfactory' outcome (e.g. if a resident doctor/Educational Supervisor does not leave correct statement agreements/responses for proof of progression on ESR or an ARCP does not sufficient evidence to prove satisfactory progression of resident doctor).
Green Lozenge = Completed and agreed (e.g. the ARCP has given a positive/satisfactory outcome or the ESR/survey etc is complete).
Vertical lines:
Red = Your current place in your training progress. This represents where you are in date terms, 'now'.
Green = Your proposed CCT date, as confirmed by the last ARCP.
