Editing Learning Logs
Once a Trainee sends a Learning Log (also referred to as an 'entry') to a Supervisor, that entry is then locked to further editing. If as the Trainee you realise that you then need to make further changes, you have to retract the review request (this option is only available up until Supervisor reviews the entry) make the changes, and then submit for review again.
What if the Supervisor thinks another Curriculum Domain can be linked?
The Supervisor can link or unlink Curriculum Domains up until the point of the ESR (Educational Supervisor Review). The Trainee can add further comments to the entry, but they can't edit the entry or change the domains once the Supervisor has reviewed it.
Therefore the Supervisor can either:
- Not mark the entry as reviewed so the Trainee can retract the review request as above (but the Supervisor can still comment on the entry first).
- Make the capability changes themselves and add any entry comments.
Unlocking Learning Logs
Once entries such as Learning Logs have been reviewed by your Supervisor, they are considered 'locked' to any further editing or removal. Once an entry is locked, we have been asked not to unlock or remove them, unless in certain circumstances at the request of the RCO. These circumstances are most commonly related to patient-identifiable information that needs to be removed from an entry.
Please don't worry though - reviewed Learning Logs can be left on your Portfolio without issue, and you can create a duplicate of any Learning Logs to change or add information if necessary.
If you do create duplicates, we would recommend stating in their titles that they are duplicates, and also that you ask your supervisor to raise an 'Educator's note' on your portfolio to explain the duplicated entry. This duplicated entry will also need to be reviewed by your supervisor to be counted as part of your current review period.
Please be reassured that Educator's notes on trainee's portfolios are a common occurrence to explain duplicated entries or errors, and this won't cause you any issues in the future.
